History is peppered with nameless men and women whose actions determined the course of nations. Africa is no different from anywhere else in that regard, but fortunately our customs require that we honour those who have come before us and acknowledge those who have blazed a path for others to follow. In the context of Nigeria, one such trailblazer was the late Mrs. Janet Ara Oben Namme born in 1936, in Okigwe, Abia State, Nigeria, Mrs Namme died peacefully at her residence in GRA Ikeja on the 1st of March 2016, aged 80 years, and was laid to rest on 29th April 2016 at a funeral service held at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, GRA Ikeja followed by a grand “Celebration of Life” reception held at Queen’s College Hall, Yaba; where family and friends gathered to send this great pioneer of Education on to glory. She has also left behind a legacy that spans countless Nigerians, the world over, and in honour of that legacy, her loved ones have reconstituted her old company, LJ Edukonsult, into a non-profit charitable organisation known as the Janet Namme Educational Foundation (JNEF).
